The rhodium plating technique involves immersion in a plating bath and subsequent careful degreasing to leave an extremely thin film of rhodium on the surface of the item just a few microns thick.
Industrial rhodium plating does not alter the physical properties of any alloy, including gold, and is in general highly resistant to the effects of time and wear.
Decorative rhodium plating is mainly used for jewellery, especially silver jewellery, to produce a shiny surface, guard against corrosion and impart brilliance.
